Of course basil is not native to the Yukon, nor is it particularly well suited to our growing environment, but it is delicious, beautiful, and commonly found in a culinary tradition very close to my heart: Italian.
This product is both a nod to my Italian ancestry and a testament to my growing skill as a gardener. When I open a jar and breathe it in I am reminded of hot summer days and the feeling of accomplishment felt while trimming big bouncy leaves from my many basil plants. It is the perfect remedy to a dreary winter day; sprinkle it over salads, sliced tomatoes (if you can find any), fresh cheeses, or enjoy it with olive oil, vinegar, and crusty bread.
